Gatey Watey is a gate that, through a simple crossover network, lets you have significantly more transparent gating without cutting off the sound you want to hear.
By breaking up the reduction into two bands and giving independent range controls, it allows you to cut the high frequencies more while letting the low frequencies through, letting your instrument ring out while it decays.
It also provides a more transparent transition from open to closed, reducing that “silence after noise” pumping that is happens on broadband gates.

1) Most sustained, musical sounds concentrate their energy in low frequencies
2) Our ears are highly sensitive to high frequency noise
That’s why we don’t need to treat all frequencies equal. If we can simply cut the high frequency noise and retain the low frequency sustained tones, we can have a much more effective gate that doesn’t cut the signal we want to hear.
