Not Just Another Transient Designer
If we were to dissect the sound of a single drum hit, we would discover an incredibly complex series of events, all happening in rapid succession, that creates the unique tone of each drum. From the attack of the stick to the resonance of the head, these short time slices add together to create what we hear as the tone. This is why it’s such a shame that the standard is to rely on static EQ to sculpt the tone of our drums. To put it bluntly, eq is just not a very good tool for the job, especially if drastic changes are needed.
Enter Transgressor. Transgressor breaks up your drum hits into separate sections: Transient (attack) and Sustain and lets you control the volume and EQ of those sections independently. This opens up huge potential for dialing in your drums to sound exactly the way you want them too.
Do you need a sharper attack on your snare but don’t want a harsh ring? Just boost the high end of the attack only.
Does your kick drum ring out too long, cluttering your low end? Just take some low frequencies out of the sustain of your kick to retain the deep impact without the rumble.
Is your snare to harsh but you don’t want to deaden the resonance? Just remove some of the high end from the attack.
Power + Ease of Use
It’s not easy to create a plugin that so drastically changes the game while being easy and intuitive to use, but once you try it out, you will instantly click with what it can do.
Break the Rules
Because Transgressor lets you EQ such small slices of time, it also opens up a whole set of new possibilities on how you use your EQ. The traditional rules of EQ can be thrown out the window. That resonant shelf filter on your parametric EQ that no sane person in the history of music making has ever used? It suddenly becomes useful. 20dB of low end boost on your kick? Go for it. You don’t have to be shy when it comes to extreme settings anymore.
Just the Facts
- Hybrid transient designer with two 4-band equalizers with selectable slopes
- Gain controls let you boost or eliminate transients and sustain independently
- Mix knob lets you adjust wet/dry signal
- Adjustable transient detector lets you control sensitivity, eliminate false triggers from bleed
- Internal, external and MIDI sidechain control of detector
- Factory presets to get you started

This plug-in works very well, and swims in the pond of other, more costly solutions . A pity that there are mainly kick presets, but as per tutorial one can easily transfer the settings to everything where clean transients are required. More costly for other plugz means of course more options and decent/better results, but as a “one knob” solution, this plugin does the trick well, without leaving the bed room producer the option to screw the thing up.
Jorg –
One of my new favourite plugins. Usually I have to mess around with different parallel compression and EQ and loads of other tricks to get my kicks, snares and claps in shape. This does it so incredibly fast and well.

Cool plugin. Quick & easy way to add character to sound effects & foley.
Its good at adding depth and weight without adding muddy tones throughout the sounds.

Yes, love this, but please hurry with the Apple Silicon Native version, or I’ll end up buying something else and probably never come back for future versions!
deniki4 –
Very good plugin.
Please make M1 Native version. Only your plugins in my collection still don’t support M1.
jacoby –
Essential plugin. Along with Gatey Watey, in desperate need of Apple silicon update. Dozens of piano libraries out there, from lightweight to comprehensive. And Pianoteq. PRIORITIES.
Phatso Brown –
Is the best kept secret in creative drum shaping? Oh yes. And criminally underrated too. This is pure multi band mayhem on your snares, kicks, percussion, and even guitars. Forget about AI, use this to generate endless variations on your existing samples and beats library. A dull sounding electronic kick now has more oomph and sounds like a Pearl. A snare sounds more layered and cuts through with a little high mid boost, where previously you had to layer it with a clap and who knows what else. Separate bands for attack and release are just insanity, but they make it easy to fix things like those troublesome guitar samples and VSTs with too much low mid energy buildup. It can even do resonance suppression. There is no built in clipper, which encourages responsible transient processing, so I won’t ask for one (and Boz do make a few very clever ones). I am a bit of a transient design ho, so I don’t know how I slept on this one, but don’t make the same mistake I did and transgress away. If you’re having to compress, and eq and layer your drums to get them to sound phat, use this, and thank Boz later.

Really Great for Electronic Kicks! Just use factory preset for Kick, and Next, Boom! Your Kick will be Next Level!
Also Combination of “Transgressor 2 -> Bark Of Dog 2” is Great. If you are looking for Great Kick for kinda Club Track, I think this is must have! I use this combi along with other plugins but this is very key factor. I have other Frequency adjustable transient designer, but Transgressor only has this Very great unique charactor for Electric Kicks. Thanks Boz and Boz Digital Labs’s team! Amazing!

There is nothing out there in the ether like this. Boz, has really thought about a series of key events that artists and engineers work with on the daily and has created a tool that would allow innovators to tap into its DNA, to extract the necessary components to build their spaceships, guided voices, and leave their personal stamp on the universe. Take a leap, have a listen, and decide for yourself. Support yourself and protect your art, you know what’s best. The future has came and went, get into the presence.

Like others here have said, when you first read the description it sounds like a unique idea and not much else, but when you start to use it there is no going back! The idea is so simple and yet so powerful that it’s possible to get a toy drum recorded with a potato to sound like a real, useable kickdrum. This replaces MANY of the other plug-ins that I would usually use on my drumtracks and busses and does so with little cpu usage. The GUI is neat and shows you every function in just one window, which makes it fast to work with, and I like the fact that it’s possible to save both universal presets and presets for the attack and sustain EQ’s separately. This is simply a must have plug-in!
Tre’ Ossmann –
This is a plugin that never caught my eye until I heard it in action. When I first read the description of this plugin, I thought it was a unique idea, but that was about it. I didn’t really grasp how powerful this plugin is until I watched a couple videos on it. Then I was blown away. This thing offers a degree of control over drums unlike any other plugin I’ve ever seen. So far I haven’t owned a Boz plugin that I haven’t liked, but if I had to give them all up and could only keep one, this one would be it. Simply because there’s no other plugin out there (that I know of) that is capable of transforming drum tracks like this one is. This plugin is a game changer.
kevinsparks –
This is a game-changer for fart sounds. Turn down the sustain on the lower frequencies and you instantly have a speaker destroyer if you are proud enough. Cowardly farts not allowed

Transgressor has been a bread and butter plugin on all drum tracks since the day I bought it. It’s so much more than a plain transient/envelope shaper. Its use along with Oxford Envolution completely changed my workflow and the way I use compressors. It’s a must for all who go for heavily processed drums without using samples.
Torgul –
This is just plain good. 🙂
eno –
Well, the interface has some little spots that don’t feel completely consistent, plus you cannot resize it? Other than that, after spending years almost never touching transients or simply using some very basic transient shaper, this one finally does give me a lot of influence and – most importantly – a quick handle on the sound of drums and other elements. Highly recommended!

After trying a variety of different transient designers I definitely have a new favourite. I tried the first version but really didn’t get along with it. The new EQ section and the much better layout on version 2 really let you see what is going on and allow adjustments to easily be made. Props to boz on this release.
ilmai –
This immediately became my favorite transient processing tool. So creative, so much more powerful as a sound design tool than any alternative. Also the new UI is so much easier to use. Now if Big Beautiful Door gets a similar update, it’s going to be an insta-buy for me.
tccrawford82 –
This is a fantastic tool.
You can, for instance, on toms, with the ‘remove stick attack’ preset, set the threshold so that soft hits keep the stick attack and sound nice and organic, and the attack on loud hits is de-emphasized so the drums sound big and full.
It’s so quick and easy.

Transgressor been one of my fav plug from Boz. I love the things you can do with it & totally control things. It’s extraordinary.
Now that Boz has enhanced the interface with audio analysis and 4 bands of eq, I’m so excited to have it, ambitiously taking on 2020 with a smile.
Thanks a lot for the free update Boz, glad to be a long time customer & supporter of your great reliable work. Cheers
Alexphilipp –
Absolutely incredible tool. Gives very impressive results with unbelievably small CPU load. Different frequency settings for Transient and Sustain very useful. For Threshold would be nice to see below and above function in future. Also latency could be set up to 1ms when rendering for better transient handling.
Good job Boz! Must have plugin!
jaimedare –
Love this thing for so many reasons. Favourite way to currently use it is to totally change up drum loops by muting the sustain part and then playing with the hold/release and also the retrigger etc. Obviously plenty of other, more practical uses for this too, would fully recommend it!
Ross Donaldson –
I bought the first generation of this product way way back and I think I have used it on every mix since. I am looking forward to the updated interface.
In the olden days we would take a drawmer gate and set it to “duck” so we could process just that crack portion of the snare then add it into the mix. This allows me to do that in one interface with much better control.
MKV –
This quickly became one of my favorite plugins ! I love what this plugin does….It can bring dull muddy sounding drums to life, I work with a lot with dirty sampled drum loops and yes i like my drums dirty at times but there’s also a lot of noise and bad frequencies that i don’t want and i’m able to get those out with Transgressor while gaining clarity & punch, Being able to control the transients & sustain it a really big deal for me ! My drums will never be the same and that’s a good thing.

The cure for Transientitus!
Ross Donaldson –
This plugin allowed me to use only the recorded drums for the first time. I didn’t have to augment with any triggered drums. I love what it did to the toms. I was able to keep the tom tracks open and still get a nice crisp attack without having it affect the cymbals and other bleed. I hope the next update has a pitch function on the non transient side like the eventide fission.
ekosulistiyo –
Amazing plugin! I mean, I’ve been processing drums this way since long ago with transient controller tool, add some attack, lessen sustain, but no tool was so comprehensive yet easy to use as Transgressor. Where you can actually control the attack and sustain behavior.
This plugin streamlined my drum processing even more now, much more efficient and effective result. You can make it natural as it was a nicely recorded drum set or make it really aggressive easily.
And try it on bass or vocals sometime, great result! Awesome plugin!
badmonkeymusic –
You don’t have this in your toolbox! I have some of the other transient designers, and pretty much they control sustain and transients on the the entire signal. Sorry Boz – not saying this is a transient designer though!
I used Transgressor to fix the following issues quickly: toms were too tubby, straight EQ’ing the kick wasn’t giving me the click I needed, and the room mics weren’t giving my snare enough air with too much boomy-ness in the 120hz area.
Transgressor is now my main stay for drum mixing. I have yet to use it on other material, but I imagine drums is where I would use it the most. What you want in your head with your drum tracks is now tons easier with Transgressor. Although there is only 3 filter types per section – the Q section allows some pretty radical notching curves. I am still trying to wrap my head around getting the transient and sustain sections separated more accurately.
A little goes a long way. Trust me, you need this if you mix drums.

Hi,
I just thought I’d take a few minutes to drop you a line to express
my entire satisfaction with Transgressor. Very cool plugin. It has
permitted me to remove a number of effects from my drum processing
chain, i.e., EQ, multiple instances of compression, noise gates,
enhancers, etc. I can slightly modify or radically change the sound
of my drum tracks without them sounding “tweaked”. It takes a
few minutes to get the hang of it but, that accomplished, I find it to
be a breeze to use. The layout is logical and user-friendly. I
especially like the “ears-based” EQ section. No distracting
frequency Hz numbers to worry about. Nice job, folks.
One little thing that might be a cool addition for a future version
would be a Mongoose-style frequency-based width control on both the
transient and sustain sections. That would be total control and fun
to experiment with.

This the plugin I didn’t know I needed until I tried it and realised its what I’ve been wanting for years.
Being able to manipulate the transient separately from everything else, but also being able to shape everything else is such an advantage for badly recorded or compressed drums.
In the short time I’ve been using Transgressor I have been able to rescue several Kicks and Snares that in the past I would have replaced or augmented with samples.
Thanks BDL!
a_azpiri –
5 Golden stars to this one. It makes my life so much easier. I don’t have to go through hundreds of drum samples to make a poorly recorded drumkit sound decent anymore. Just by extending the attack’s release time I get a great sound. JJP just mentioned on NAMM that he has his assitants cut the attack of every track so that he can eq and comprees the attack separately from the release. Well, if his assistants get this plug in, their job will be much easier! A must have!

Great plugin! A very good alternative to the usual suspects when it comes to transient processing. The design is perfect and I think it’s one of the very few plugins that just make sense, no useless knobs or anything too fancy – just what’s needed to shape sounds in the most efficient way possible. I had great results on drums so far with this, but it’s also fine for making melody lines sit better in a mix. Especially for synthesizers with a bold sound it’s very useful, I used it on a Moog Voyager bassline a few times to tighten it up and it didn’t even need any further processing.
This is definitely my go-to tool to shape sounds now.
Plus, in comparison to other transient designers the price is pretty nice, I would even pay more for this one.
guitar_guy182_ –
This plugin is very simple and intuitive with a new spin on transient processing that many will favor for drums. Processing the transients EQ and sustain separately is extremely powerful, allowing the removal of resonances without losing attack and cleaning up the signal on the sustain. Large UI. Excellent sidechain possibilities. The lookahead gives it a smoother sound when shaping at more extreme quantities. Overall, the amount of shaping this can do on drums is nothing short of amazing. I have not had the chance to try this on other instruments as of yet, but so far results have been quick and extremely rewarding on drums.

Just wanted to tell you how
overwhelmed I am by the Transgressor plugin. I’m right now mixing a
live recording of a mini festival show (where I just didn’t have the
time to super precisely tune the drums, find the best microphone
positions and so on) for a band and Transgressor helped on ALL drum
channels.
It helped me shape the kick like I couldn’t seem to be able to
before, it cleaned up my snare track (which had excessive hihat
bleed). It cleaned up the tom channels and made them even punchier. I
haven’t even tried it on the overheads, but I think I’m gonna. I’m
super happy as is!!
I have tried other seemingly similar plugins, but for me Transgressor blows them out of the water.
Thank you!
PS I haven’t even had a chance to try out the update, which will probably make this plugin even more useful.
Gary Vickers –
Very unique, and very useful. Being able to EQ and control the level of transients and sustain separately is much more powerful than it may seem. Some of the drum tracks that I have used it on sound like I did a drum replacement AND parallel compression — night and day difference. I’m still exploring some of the non-drum applications, and also using just the transient or just the sustain for special effects. The possibilities seem endless….great work!
Chucaro Albaradize –
This plugin will provide you with unprecedented drum sound manipulation. It is really like no other tool but incorporates many, making use of an intuitive and fairly simple control center. With that said, the price is of fenomenal value, especially with the 50% off release price. As a consumer I make sure I buy all products that I like from Boz Digital because I believe they offer great quality/cost ratio. It is like fomenting a high value future for the consumers of this industry. Keep them coming
